Dear Diary Monday 18th May 2026 to Sunday 24th May 2026

This was the week that was: Monday 18th May 2026 to Sunday 24th May 2026

Okay, this week was definitely a lot. I’m just sitting here with a cup of coffee, and considering what a pain this week has been. With chronic issues every week is a pain of course, but some weeks other aspects of life join hands with it and evrything just seems so much worse.

Medical Stuff!

First of all, the medical insurance shenanigans. I was supposed to get a change of medication my doctor prescribed for chronic pain. Apparently, they “require a prior authorization” according to the pharmacy even though it is a drug I’ve already taken before.

So my doctor had to fill out extra paperwork like we’re applying for a mortgage just so I can get my pain level under control. It’s exhausting fighting for basic stuff that is not a problem anywhere else in the civilized world. And, yeah, of course, denied.

The Weather

And can we talk about the weather? Because Mother Nature has officially lost her freaking mind. Yesterday afternoon, I was sweating just trying to exist, and the thermometer said 93°F so I had the AC blasting.

I woke up this morning at 7 AM and asked that Alexa thingy for the weather, and it was 53°F. Fifty-three! That’s a forty-degree drop overnight. My whole body is so confused. I’ve got the heat on now, and I swear it feels like the planet just flipped a switch.

Work

Work was rough today too. I run a little online business selling various bits and pieces, and my regulars are close to terrified. I had three separate messages today from buyers, all saying the same thing: they’re scared to spend money because of the mess the USA has gotten itself into.

One lady said she’s stockpiling wax (Wax? Not sure why… TP yep, can understand that, but wax?) because she’s afraid prices will double next month. Nobody trusts anything right now.

And Prices

And speaking of prices – they’re still going up. A lot! Everything has gone up again this week. And here’s the kicker: they’re saying that tariffs are supposedly done for most things. So if it’s not tariffs, what’s the excuse?

Gas and diesel prices are high, sure, but at this point? It is starting to feel like pure greed is also playing its part. Companies just realized they could charge more and blame it on “global tensions” or whatever, and we’d just have to pay it. And we do! Nobody’s lowering anything back down.

Tariffs

Plus, and this really annoys me, importers are getting their tariff payments back and we are getting nothing. You know, us. The ones who had all the tariffs passed on to them. They are getting bonus payments for costs that have been passed on and we are getting zip.

So Overall

So yes. Denied meds, freezing cold the day after being boiling hot, skittish customers, and price gouging. I’m gonna light a candle just because I feel like it, and pretend the world isn’t on fire (or freezing over) for a while. Maybe next week will be better.
